For this final project I had a great time creating it. Initially I was a little stumped on how to go about the process and at first spent a decent amount of time just brainstorming ideas and figuring out what all I wanted to incorporate. Like I previously mentioned in my project post I eventually would settle on the three forms of media; web, audio and image. I love radio and the idea of telling a story through that form of media so I genuinely enjoyed that portion of my project. I really enjoyed creating a script for the project and getting the opportunity to further flesh out my character and expand the universe he resides in. The recording process was an interesting one as recording large portions of dialogue take a decent amount of time due to messing up takes and wanting to produce quality sound. After the portion was completed I really enjoyed using X-Ray Goggles and altering webpages, it gave me the opportunity to create Easter eggs and really flesh out the universe. I wanted to embed the actual webpages but wasn’t entirely sure how so I know links weren’t permitted but it was the only way I knew how to attach that portion of the story. These pieces play as a bonus story the flesh events in the story and expand a little more on the character Rocket Richard, basically making feel real. I cant say enough how much I loved creating this project as it really gave me the opportunity to be creative allowing me to use the different forms of media we covered this semester.
For my final project I spent the first few weeks brainstorming, mapping out and planning my approach for my project. At first I wasn’t sure which path I would take for my project but as the parts slowly came together I knew what I wanted to create. At first I wanted to create a video/movie of my characters story but due to price and lack of resources I decided that would be to difficult to accomplish, at least if I was going for quality. Eventually I started at radio/audio. I really enjoyed our midterm project and thought that would be a great place to start. Once I had that in place I started working on the script for the story. It ended up taking a decent amount of time to work out the story and flesh out the characters a tad. I didn’t want it to be extremely long and I wanted to make it clear and to the point. Recording took awhile mostly due to trying to edit the audio so it was clear. After that I decided to use the film aspect by incorporating pictures/photography as a means of depicting what was occurring alongside the audio. I spent a good few hours finding images and editing them together with the audio. I wanted to also add another form of storytelling to the project by using one of my favorite software’s we used this semester, X-Ray Goggles. I wanted to give the reader/viewer another means of storytelling so I decided to edit a few webpages to fit within the universe of my characters story, I put in a decent amount of Easter eggs too so keep an eye out for those. I really had fun with that portion as creating ads and playing with the universe was a fun side activity that I found myself lost in for awhile. Overall I am very satisfied with my assignment and feel my use of audio, film, image and web allowed me to tell the story I wanted to tell. I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Check out these below. They further delve into the universe of Rocket Richard.
This week Ive been working on outlining, brainstorming and mapping out my final project. Ive been looking over the types of media we’ve used this semester and Ive been trying to figure out which three would be best in regards to what I am trying to create. Ive settled on selecting audio, film, and photography. I fell these three mediums will allow me the flexibility and creativity I need in order to tell my story. Since we are incorporating our characters into this assignment Ive decided to go the route of telling an origin story of my character. For this I will incorporate the three mediums of storytelling by splitting them into thirds. I will evenly distribute the storytelling by telling it through film, audio, and photography. The story will follow the characters beginning and how he came to be the person he is. Ive already worked on the script for the audio portion and Ive finished the outline for the filming portion. I will first start filming on Monday when a few of my buddies will meet with me and help me create the filming portion. Ive already started the audio portion and towards the end of the week I will start the photography portion. I’m excited to see how this project turns out.
This week was a little hectic as my internet provider Comcast was frequently on and off again throughout the week. However once the internet was restored I was able to roll through the work mostly because I had it mapped out and finished while the internet was down allowing me the ability to simply post once it came back on. For the daily creates this week I got to be creative and create some interesting images of cats and dogs raining as well as looking up some former Capital players. The link for this weeks daily creates can be found here.
For this weeks main theme we had to create a tutorial of something we either struggled with or enjoyed doing from this semesters work. I ended up providing a tutorial on one of the assignments I created and participated in, spoiling a movies plot. I enjoyed this assignment and thought that others might struggle with it because there are a lot of moving parts in the assignment. My tutorial breaks down the steps of preparing and organizing the process of the assignment and provides helpful sources for further information. The link to the tutorial can be found here.
The assignments this week focused on mash-ups. For mine I tried to stay with the theme of Photoshop, since I started my free 7-day trial with Adobe Photoshop, I wanted to get my trials worth. My assignments stayed with the theme of mashing up characters and scenes from different movies or shows. I ended up combining the film Jaws with the film Titanic, I placed Marty Mcfly in the Fast and Furious universe and I further indulged in my sports addiction by combining my favorite teams. I had blast doing all of the mashup assignments and they really helped my learn more about Photoshop and visual arts.
The last section of this weeks assignments probably allowed the class to be the most creative yet. The remix section allowed us to select an assignment and then randomly mix it with another assignment making a brand new and unique take on an assignment. In this I combined my character both times by adding him in a voting campaign image, also giving him a stache, and I to a trip to the past and revisited his car lust post and gave him a ride along partner in Waldo. Both of the remix assignments were fun and it was exciting to see what the assignment I selected would be remixed with.
Overall it was a great week for creativity and I loved being able to indulge in some of my favorite themes this week.
For this remix I ended up using one of my previous assignments as the selected portion of the remix. The previous blog post detailing what the original assignment was can be found here. The original assignment had me describing my created characters car, which is a 1971 Chevelle SS. So after I decided that I would select that assignment to be remixed I clicked on the remix button and got the Where’s Waldo remix. Basically I had to incorporate Waldo into my image. So I went back to my previous assignment and I used the same picture and incorporated Waldo into the image. I couldn’t really hide him in the image so I figured I would just make him the car owner. Overall I enjoyed this remix as it allowed me to look back on previous assignments and allowed me to further experiment with Photoshop.
For this remixed assignment I had to combine an image that represented voting, basically encouraging people to go out and vote, with the “Stache It” assignment. So make things clear I had to make an image encouraging people to vote while adding a mustache somewhere. For this assignment I ended up incorporating my created character Rocket Richard, whom is based off of a real person. So I took an image of him from his younger days and threw a mustache on him while making the image seem like it encouraged citizens to go out and vote. It was probably one of the weirdest images Ive ever created and one of the oddest assignments Ive been tasked with doing. I used adobe Photoshop once again and It wasn’t to difficult of a task to complete. While it was the strangest assignment I had ever completed it was still fun to make and create.
For this assignment I had to once again combine films together, however while I previously combined scenes together in my previous post this time I will be focusing on combining characters from different movies. This assignment was a little tricky because I wanted to place characters together that you as the viewer could say, “yeah I could them together”. So I started brainstorming ideas I happened to start thinking about Back to the Future, one of my all time favorite films, and I thought “I have to incorporate this movie somehow”. So I decided to pick Marty Mcfly, the main character from the film and I began thinking of characters I could place him with. The thought of the him and the Delorean started making me think about films with cars, which instantly led me to the Fast and Furious franchise. I could honestly see the character Brian, form Fast and Furious, and Marty together having one crazy race. Again I used adobe Photoshop too create the image and I had a blast doing it. I really enjoy the creativeness the mashups promote and I enjoyed the three mashups I ended up making.
For this assignment I had to mix together two key scenes from two movies, basically combining them together to make an out of place scene occur but at the same time making it seem subtle. For this I ended combining everyone favorite tragic love story, the Titanic, with everyone’s favorite shark movie, Jaws. Every time I watch the Titanic I always ask myself “what about the sharks? I don’t know what would be scarier, drowning as the ship goes down or waiting for a shark to pick me off”. Even though the location of where the titanic sank is to cold for sharks, especially the Great White, Titanic survivors wouldn’t really have to worry about sharks unless they drifted further out. You may think that a great white shark in these waters would be extremely unlikely or even impossible, but Jaws isn’t your everyday shark. Just imagine, youre on the Titanic and having the time of your life when the boat hits something…is it an iceberg? NO its freaking Jaws. Good luck surviving the sinking cause that shark never stops eating.
Again for this assignment I used adobe Photoshop so similar beginner issues occurred. I did find myself enjoying this particular activity the most of the three mashup assignments I completed.
For this assignment I got to further indulge in my passion for sports related content. For this task I was instructed to combine the logos/mascots of my favorite sports teams in one unified image. The image is suppose to look natural and cohesive, meaning it shouldn’t look like I just threw a bunch of logos together. I used adobe Photoshop for this assignment and incorporated as many of my favorite sports teams as possible. I ended up incorporating four of my favorite sports teams; the Washington Capitals, DC United, the Oakland Athletics and the Miami Dolphins. I really enjoyed this assignment and I had a blast creating it. It was my first time really playing with adobe Photoshop and it was a little challenging at first. Its a software that I think I need more time experimenting with before I can become great at Photoshop. Anyways I hope you enjoy this mix mashup of my favorite sports teams.
This week was pretty busy in terms of work and assignments so I guess due to that we were only instructed to complete two daily creates for this week. The two daily creates I created dealt with the number 25 and taking expressions literally. For the number 25 create I used a photo of one of my favorite former Washington Capitals players, number 25 Jason Chimera.

For the second daily create I took the expression, Its raining cats and dogs, literally and created this image of what it would truly look like if this expression came to life. I used SnapChat to help create the image.

Overall this week’s daily creates were unique and interesting. I always enjoy participating in the daily creates and this week was no different.
